I am looking for anyone who is interested in assisting with the continued improvement of Optimum Video Poker, an analysis and trainer program for Windows and Macintosh computers. Programming experience would be great, but if you have a logical mind you may be able to contribute without actually getting involved in the coding. Or even if you would like to be a beta tester for the next version you would get a free upgrade when it's released.

I'm interested to do testing but would just like to know on what principle does this work? Because it's not like you could use card counting on a video poker machine because is it just like a slot machine?

I have lots of video poker near where I am from. I suppose 777 it would depend on the people who made the poker machine. All the card draws would be virtual so something like card counting would be out. I'm guessing the best you could do is come close to neutralising the house edge by playing properly

To have value as a beta tester, one would obviously have to be somewhat knowledgeable about video poker. Otherwise, most of the features of the program would be meaningless. Optimum Video Poker is intended for helping a player to become an advantage player and to hone his/her skills to achieve extremely close to each game's maximum payback. For more information, please go to www.optimumplay.com and click on software. You might also be interested in my book, Video Poker Optimum Play (available on Amazon).

I would suggest you look at competition before undertaking. Bob Dancer's website for one. We used his software to certify Video poker players. Great features.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting. Does Dancer's software display the strategy chart next to the game window and relate the player's errors to the chart entries? Will it calculate the real risk of ruin by the famous Sorokin formula? How about risk of ruin before a royal? How easy is it to enter a hand for analysis? Will it generate an optimized no-penalties chart? Can penalties be optionally applied? Does it allow editing a chart? Will it calculate the actual Expected Return of a strategy chart? Will it plot the standard deviation curves? Did Dancer write his software or support it himself? When was his software last updated?

I welcome and encourage comparing the programs feature for feature.

The link goes to some very fancy video advertising, but where does it describe the actual features of the software?

My "questions" were, of course, rhetorical. The answers to most of them are "no."

Instead of fancy hype, I just offer high quality products. Please actually compare the features.

Myself and many team members are users of Dancer's software and it extensive set of features. I have no need to compare. Our experience with his software more than confirms its veracity.

Yes he has marketing shit to sell the software, so what. It by no means detracts from the quality of his product.

If you want to see the features, buy the software, it is a cheap way to see what really works. If you think I am not correct, then go develop whatever you think and see how it competes.

I was trying to save you a lot of time and expense without you knowing what you are competing against.

I have no dog in this hunt.

Of course it works. I did not intend to denigrate it as you seem to be doing re OpVP without even seeing it. There are several video poker software products on the market, and each has some features that others don't have.

Optimum Video Poker is unique, however, in displaying the strategy chart next to the game window and highlighting a playing error in the chart so that the player learns to relate card patterns to chart entries, and it has several other features that VPW lacks.

Most serious players use at least two or three different programs so that all of the various features are available in one or another. Try OpVP. I think you will find it a very useful companion to any other software you use.

OpVP is also unique in running on Macs as well as Windows.

I have seen players puzzle over a decision, take out a cue card, study it intently, then make the wrong hold.

One time I watched a player do this, and I asked him why he held the cards he did. He replied, "That's what the chart said to do." I asked to see his cue card (it was not one of mine), and the chart was correct. I concluded that, for players using a strategy chart, the most common playing errors are due to misunderstanding the hand type descriptions in the chart or failing to relate those hand types to card patterns.

How can such a player be helped? To that end, I implemented the on-screen chart with error highlights that is unique to OpVP. Of course, not all players use the same format strategy charts, which is why OpVP offers a choice of formats.
