The Pass Line

So I have heard that this is the most common bet used nowadays. Like many of the people I have talked to, I like to refer to it as a self-service bet because you are basically making this bet yourself without the dealer's help. The only time the dealer will make the Pass Line is either when you lack the right chip combinations (and hence the need for change) or when there exists a physical handicap. How often do players use this type of bet?

I would think that this bet is used quite often since it is the most basic bet in the game. I've seen it used a lot when I'm at the casino. One that people don't use often is the Don't Pass Line bet which is strange because it has a lower house edge, so you would think that more people would use it.

I have also noticed that people prefer the Pass Line instead but I see them use the Don't Pass line when there is that feeling that seven is coming up. Is it then a fact that 7 is more likely to come up more than any other number hence people should be using the latter option more?
