Have you ever had to make the tough decision of placing a high bet that could potentially cause you to lose all your money, because you needed money for something extremely important?

No. When gambling I start with my set bankroll and I stick to it. Gambling money you need for rent or bills is where gambling stops being professional and starts being a problem.

I agree that sticking with a set bankroll is a solid plan. However, I'm not talking about an addiction where you're betting the last of your money because you have a problem. I'm saying that maybe all your bills for the month are added up and your checks are short this month, so you have the decision to bet that money and try to produce more, or you find yourself with your lights and water off.

I think that's where you shouldn't gamble, unless you're a professional and it is your income. You won't keep your mind in the game, and if you lose you'll be further in the hole. One month won't leave you with lights and water off, so look for a new job, get some online work or something before the deficit gets serious.

I have never done that, and hopefully will never have to. I only gamble with money I can afford to lose. I never bet on anything that is extremely high in value.

Melissa, you bring up some very valid points about such circumstances interfering with your ability to play. Though I will say that missing one month of payments will get your lights and water turned off unless you get an extension.

Hopefully none of us ever end up at this point, but I know it does happen to people. In those situations, like Melissa mentioned, your judgment immediately becomes clouded.
