Horse & Dog Best breeds for racing

Which do you guys think are the best breeds for racing dogs and what are some of the factors one considers when making that decision?

At American and European dog tracks it is pretty much entirely Greyhounds or Whippets that are raced, and if you tried to race another breed it would be unusual. I've heard some places in the Middle East race Salukis. Mind you, if you're betting on the Itarod or sled racing expect to find them using a range of breeds.

I agree with Tolly, Greyhounds and Whippets are great in America and Europe, but I also think that over all they're the best, no matter where you are.

As far as I know, Greyhounds are the fastest. There are also dog breeds like the Saluki, Dalmatian and Rhodesian Ridgeback that are equally fast. We all agree that it has to do with the location.
