Horse & Dog Types of bets in horse racing

Is it true that if you bet the favorite or 'chalk' every other time, there's say a 35% percent chance of winning? From my little knowledge of horse racing, there are three options to choose from the straight bets.

A win means that you are taking your chances on your horse to cross the finish line first, a place means betting on the horse to come in first or second and a show for a horse to come in first, second or third. I would choose the last two as a beginner trying to get familiar with this game.

As a beginner, you should definitely start out with Show and Place betting. These two bets are the ones that win more often than the others. The hardest bets to win at are the Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 6. I don't think I've ever been able to win at any of those.

I am also a beginner and as you have mentioned, I will be looking to concentrate more on the Show and Pace betting. Horse racing looks interesting and definitely worth a try from a gambler's perspective.

I am a place better myself, have been for many years. Can honestly say that I have always been in front by doing so. Pick 3 is called a trifecta in Australia and I have been lucky enough to pick a few over the years, a couple paid in the $1000s.

Place betting looks like the safest bet and the one that works for most of my friends. You seem to have been among the lucky ones.

For how long have you been doing this?

That's such a long time nowun and I believe you are now well equipped and knowledgeable about what has changed over the years.

I am a horse racing enthusiast myself but I perform so dismally when it comes to betting on the same. Probably I am better off as a spectator.

I research all sorts of betting and learn as much as I can before diving in for real. Learning how to read form is the one of the best ways to be successful punting on horses.

I maintained a laying thread on one of the UK tips sites for about 3 months before I got sick of all the nay sayers and quit. Took my balance from $300 to just over $900 using $1 bets. One thing I learned is there are a lot of jealous people looking to put you down if you show you are successful. Google Nowun's Laying Plan, it still shows up in the top listings. I tried to emulate Maria to show if she was a fake or not. A lot of people ran her down to when she took her balance from $3000 to $100000 in just under a year.

I don't bet on horses often, because I've never really got the hang of reading form. When I do I prefer each-way bets - effectively a combined bet on winning and placing. Effectively you get the winning amount if the horse wins, but the lower amount for a place bet if the horse places. It works as insurance to make it less likely you'll lose your stake, but with the chance of higher winnings if you pick a winner.
