I really love dogs but have never been to a race before. Is it only the Greyhounds that are normally up to this or are there other dog breeds that can race? What are some of the dynamics of dog racing?

Depending on where you are, the majority of racing dogs will be greyhounds but there are also races which include whippets. Dog races are over very quickly and you'll need to track a few runners for a while to get an idea of how thinks work. I suggest choosing a couple of race favorites and see how they perform over a number of races.

I've also only heard of greyhound racing if we talk about the ones we often bet on. There are other breeds which are quite popular as racers, though, such as Whippets and Border Collies. I guess they are only for small scale races.

Border Collies race? Well you learn something new every day. I have only even bet on greyhounds - and I am not even very good at that!!
Should stick to the horses.

I've been to the dog racing a few times and it is always a fun night. Although it's usually more about meeting up with friends than the actual betting.
