Horse & Dog Specialise in one type?

If you're betting on horse or dog racing how specialised do you make it? Do you bet on only one type, like flat or steeplechase, limit yourself to one track and learn the conditions and rules there so you can guess which runners will do better, or do you just bet on whatever takes your eye.

If I bet on horses, it tends to be the steeplechases only. I found they tend to be more unpredictable.

You will always do better in whatever discipline or activity that you dedicate more time and focus to, and in this case I think it's better to specialize rather than to be just OK in everything.
