So I heard that whichever version of Poker you play, it is always a game of the best five cards. Additionally, that the ace is the high card whereas the deuce is the lowest. So how do these apply to the game?

Technically speaking, the ace can also be used as the lowest card if you play a straight with 5-4-3-2-ace. That probably sounds like a waste, but it depends on the hands playing. Poker depends on cards combination and counting the cards, which can get tough sometimes.
