When you hear of big unclaimed Lotto wins, don't you wonder what happened to the ticket holder?

And more importantly, what happened to the ticket.

To think there's little scraps of paper out there worth thousands and thousands and millions of dollars.

I can not imagine how it'd feel to realize that you had a winning ticket but you lost it! I buy my tickets and keep them in the same place every week so I don't loose it!

Just the thought makes me sick. Can you imagine throwing away your ticket only for it to end up as the winning combination? I think I need to keep my tickets at the same place from now on. On the other hand, what happens to unclaimed wins? For how long does the win remain relevant?

I just looked this up on the Powerball website. Different states have different expiration dates according to the website. So don't wait too long to check your tickets! It could cost you millions!

Well if I ever win millions, but lose my ticket, I hope I never, ever find it.

Surely a lost ticket isn't as bad as an expired one?!

Well, what happens to unclaimed winnings? In the event that they are retained by the establishments, is it declared as income? Try to imagine coming across a winning ticket way after its expiry. The thought of it is just disturbing. Keep your ticket(s) close and intact. Hold onto them like your life depends on it.

And it is for this precise reason that I keep my tickets pinned to a pin board. No way they can be lost then and no danger of having to go through such an ordeal.
