Now they are saying over 50 are dead. What a tragedy this is and it just keeps getting worse! I have been watching the coverage on the news all morning and I still can't believe it.

OMG! I hadn't heard about this. It is a shame that some idiot got a gun and killed and wounded so many innocent people. It would be easy for anyone to really cause havoc in Las Vegas simply due to the many people that are there enjoying themselves. I hope that at least come of these people survive! Good luck.

I stopped watching this in the news because of what it was causing me to feel. It is really sickening that a human being would take it upon themselves to kill others for no reason whatsoever. The death toll is quite alarming and so my heart goes out to the families of the bereaved.

I just can't believe someone can get their hands on such weapons and then do such a thing. What a coward. What a monster. Stories like this terrify the hell out of me.

Yep, it looks terrifying. How can people get guns so easily?

Yep......there is that. Apparently he bought most of the rifles he had within a period of like a month. Different stores in different cities. They all did one thing though. Checked his background. That's it. Apparently there is no law stating how mush weaponry you can buy in certain time frame. Hopefully that will change now.

I think there's need to re-look all laws regarding gun acquisition and ownership. So many lives cannot be lost at a go like that. There's an urgent need to formulate a legislate that places stringent measures and I believe this will go a long way towards reducing gun-related crime.

The problem I have with the weapons that were used in this assault was that they were fully automatic. Fully automatic guns are made for one thing only, taking a life. You can't use them for hunting because it would shred the meat. They are meant to kill people only. That is where the reform needs to begin.

Do you think it is a good idea to have a weapon at all? In Europe it is really hard to obtain a gun or any firing weapon. The issue here in the States is that it is easy to get a gun so people do it and they want to feel protected. But in the end everyone has a gun whereas in Europe it is really hard to get a gun - you need to go throung some extensive courses for firing a weapon, take a psycho test and give a good sum of money. If you`re caught with a gun without being certified, you pay heavy penalty and you can get jailed for qutie some time. So Europeans actually have almost no guns (I mean the normal citizens). There are gun shops but you need to show them the certificate before they are allowed to sell you anything. Ecen if you have a certificate I don`t think you will be able to buy automatic fire at all without being someone from the military. If you want to buy bullets you can only do it, fi you bring the empty used ones first.
Selling guns to everyone is not for the protection of society, but for purely business gains!

Guns are just as easy to buy now as they were 50 years ago. Accessibility and restrictions aren't the problem. Our culture is the problem. Everyone can agree that American culture in the 50's and 60's was vastly different than it is now. There was more respect for each other and the guns we had. That respect is slowly fading away and giving into the "all about me" mentality and the glorifying of violence.

Mass shootings are a uniquely American problem because American society is unique to the societies across the world. At least in the industrialized nations. We praise violence in movies, T.V. shows and video games. Other countries abhor it .

It's very easy to say after a mass shooting like this that we need to keep guns away from people. It is also easy for gun activists to say that the man could have used a truck bomb to kill people if he didn't have access to the guns. We can blame lack of security and we can blame violence in video games. The truth is however that sometimes things like this happen because people are just evil. People kill out of hate out of jealousy and out of spite. No amount of gun control can stop them from killing. People milled before guns and before violence in movies and video games. It's hard for most of us to understand and there are things like this that we will never be able to understand.
