If you follow a progressive betting system, does it increase your chances of winning in the long run? Does that make sense mathematically?

I've heard that many blackjack players use this type of system but that alone can't alter your long term expectation of winning at blackjack.

NO!

All variants of this type have been computer simulated and their is NO winning strategy long term.

I've also heard of progression betting though I don't believe they work in the longer term. In positive progression, you raise your bets after wins whereas in negative progression, you raise your bets after losses. @Stealth, which amongst the two would you choose?

There are some uses for progression betting and I always favor the after a win increase option. I also set limits, like win four in a row and start over. Have used it for cover in negative counts to establish myself as a progressive bettor so that large bets later are less suspicious. ALWAYS talk it up......parlay .... parlay ... parlay is my usual comment when raising my bet in this fashion.

Also, used this type of structure to partially offset a game "commission".

BE AWARE, there is no long term advantage using progressions.
