I've found it really hard to believe that there are people who can 'read' your face even when you make an effort not to show any kind of emotion. Is it really true that everyone has a tell even when they think they don't?
I believe it is true. It's just that some people are more tuned into being able to pick up on those little subtle moves and twitches and tics in someone else's face. It seems hard or even impossible to us because we haven't practiced doing it or trained ourselves to notice these things in others.
I'm actually surprised this topic hasn't come up before in the forum. I definitely believe that their are people out there who can read your face even when you're trying your best to stay stone faced.
That is definitely something that I would love to learn how to do. Imagine being able to have an edge over other players in your circle just by looking at their face? That would be awesome.
There is a method to understanding poker tells, and it's not as hard as some people might think and it doesn't always involve just the face. There are other things to consider like shaking hands and eyes not blinking and so on.
I think if you want to be really good at this then you would have to focus on learning all the tricks to do with the whole body because body language does say as much if not more than the face alone.
I think it is true that everyone has a tell, but the very top players will be aware of their own tells and sometimes fake them or give completely different tells to make that knowledge useless to their opponents.
So this is something that can be learned? Well, that's good news for people like us. I would hate to think that someone else would always have an edge over me in a game just because of my tell.
I think I will start to devote some time every day to learning this. If I can get half as good at this as some of the pros out there then I will definitely have an edge when I play.
I recently read an article about spotting tells, and it's really interesting to know that this is a skill that anyone and every person could develop if they wanted to. Great stuff.
