Poker Over calling

As beginners we are prone to making mistakes but at times, it is just annoying when people you deem to be 'experienced' keep on dong the same thing. Have you ever been at a poker table then encounter a player that calls a bet which a player or players to the right have already called? I consider this to be really weak play.

I don't mind it, but an overcall isn't always weak play, depending on who's playing. If you're playing with good players it tells you they have something, but they don't want to raise, which can be valuable knowledge for that hand. If you're playing with weak players who think overcalling is a way to stay in when they don't have anything, rather than a rare call, it's more chips in the pot for the winner.

That makes a lot of sense, but how do you tell which one is which? I mean, how would you know that the one player is good and the strategy behind their overcall?

I think it is much the same as any other game. You can see how good a player is by how they play, whether they are winning, making rookie mistakes, misnaming calls and bets etc.
