Is it possible to learn and master only one strategy in blackjack and then use the same strategy in every single game that you play or do different games need a different strategy?

I thought that was what Basic Strategy was? If you don't have a good grasp on it, you don't do well at the game because you won't know the best moves for each hand to base your play round.

I think QueenofHeart's question is if that one Basic Strategy is all one needs to learn in order to be able to play in any game of blackjack. Is that right, QueenofHearts?

Basic strategy is for all games with the possible slight adjustment based on certain rules. For example, the Dealer hits 17 versus the dealer stands on 17 rule is cause for four basic strategy rules to change slightly.

Once you know the foundation Basic Strategy then the few variations are very easy. If you are a recreational player then the foundation system is OK to use for all.

Basic strategy is pretty much essential to know as most other strategies build on it, and it covers the variations like multiple decks etc. Once you've got that down then learning other strategies is easier, and it means you always have something to fall back on.

I mean basic strategy can help withe everything, but then it comes down to wanting to improve your strategy more and sometimes people will drift away from basic strategy resulting in them having a different one for each game.

Can you elaborate on "drifting away"? Also, how does drifting away create a new strategy? Have you ever heard of cause and effect?

Drifting away means to slowly change something. And what I mean is that if you have one basic strategy for everything, you may start to make changes to that strategy while playing Blackjack or something, because it's more efficient than the basic strategy. I don't know how else to explain it.

This is voodoo. You really should refrain on offering advice on subjects that you do not understand.

"because it's more efficient than the basic strategy" - it has been tested over and over again, there is nothing more efficient.

@Janina, I think from your post there's a bit of confusion going on? I'm not sure if you are aware but in Blackjack, Basic Strategy isn't the same thing as having a general 'basic strategy' for gaming. Basic Strategy refers to the optimum move to play for each combination of your hand and the dealer's. There are charts available for it for each combination of decks or rule types. Drifting away from it doesn't really happen, not for good players, because the odds on the hand combinations don't change.
