Hey guys. I read another thread here about using the Martingale strategy in casinos but there is something that I didn't understand. Is if possible for the house to refuse your bet when it gets to a certain amount and why do they do that?

I'd agree with you. It's a strategy that's popular but one that one that isn't successful. Since it's used on playing the very outside bets, what's normally at stake is a really low payout. Is there any point in trying to win the same amount you've put in?

Martingale works all the time as long as you don't limit it. This means that you would have to have an unlimited source of funds and the house would have to let you make bets of any size.

Well, that would never happen so I think it's safe to just stay away from the Martingale system. That is meant to trap people who chase losses into losing more money.

A mini Martingale is OK for a limited target profit.
1, 2, 4, 8, or(16) STOP loss of 15 or 30 units, Win of +1 unit

I think that would be risking too much for too little gain, don't you think so, purple? When you lose (and you will) at 16 then it will take you forever to gain back those losses with the miniscule amount you will be winning.

Niall, It is definitely a risk, I agree and I have rarely played it because it tests your nerves to the limit. I've played with the even chances as follows: I write down any 5 combination of blacks and reds eg BBRBR and bet with the progression 1, 2, 4, 8, 16. (I always cover the 0) To lose 5 times in a row the wheel must spin RRBRB. (1/2)^5= 3.125%
With a French or English wheel, where you get back half the bet on the even chances, or 'en prison' rules, the casino advantage is only about 1.35%
