I have been trying to learn on my own for a while now, but when it comes to the strategies of playing Poker and Blackjack, I have to say that I fall short and I would like to find someone who would be willing to mentor me. How do I go about finding a mentor?

Hi, there may be some local clubs or groups in your area where you can meet other gamblers. If so, I'm sure someone there would be more than happy to mentor you.

Stealth from this forum seems to know card games well. I think courses he has might help

When you say mentor, it sounds to me that you are looking for someone who will not only teach you about the game(s) but also walk with you in ensuring that you grasp all the tricks and avoid the pitfalls. As Caitlan says, you will easily find willing people at the clubs or casinos near you.

That's actually great advice, except for someone like me who has the hardest time meeting and greeting people. I have a bit of a social anxiety problem. I would rather find someone online and work with them from home than look in the casinos.

Believe it or not, if you are still having trouble many casinos themselves offer classes and mentoring. If you take a class in a game at a local casino, they could then suggest someone who could act as a mentor or practice partner to improve your skills further. Booking a formal course should be easier on your social anxiety than approaching strangers for mentoring.

Social anxiety is real but trust me, there is nothing that any of us cannot overcome. Like Sevens suggests, there are many ways of getting past this. Mentoring is a good thing because if you succeed you will feel obliged to also mentor someone.

Muay, like you I suffer from social anxiety and find it much easier to deal with people online. However, I think sometimes we need to push ourselves and surprise ourselves.

Like you've clearly pointed out, not everyone is always willing to offer mentorship and/or training, especially the pros who are normally almost fully occupied. You can try to ask around the casino you frequent or check online for these services.

I've noticed that the pros that I have seen tend to be standoffish. I wouldn't feel right asking them for advice let alone mentoring me. I have just been reading a lot about gambling, tips, and tricks that will improve my understanding and hopefully my wallet as well.

Find a pro and offer them "consulting fee's" for their time and advice. Many pros are standoffish simply because they make good money gambling. For them, time is money. So if you want their time, offer them money.
