General Extremes in gambling

What is the one story you have heard regarding gambling that made you cringe or feel sorry for some players? I have heard of people taking their lives because of losing out on bets in which they had placed huge amounts. I can relate to the emptiness that people feel when they lose (having also lost several times and probably won in equal measure) but I think life remains precious and it is important that people try not to get addicted.

I have a distant cousin who was an extremely successful business owner with offices in New York, London, and Hong Kong. He had over 1,000 employees and more money than most people can even fathom. That all came to an end about ten years ago because he lost it all to gambling. I think gambling is a fun past time and it can actually be lucrative, but if you can't keep it under control, you shouldn't be playing.

I've also heard of people using all of their savings and even losing their personal assets to gambling. This can turn into a serious addiction for some people and they end up losing everything they've worked so hard for, even their families.

There is no use gambling if someone cannot exercise self-control. It is sad to hear countless stories of how people have lost a lot of assets and money to gambling. In the meantime, I will keep just gambling for fun.

Out of all the vices around, excessive gambling is by far the worst. Drinking and abusing drugs are bad but often affect the abuser the worst. Gambling can destroy your life plus that of entire families. Betting with life savings or with resources that can be used to run a business are ridiculous scenarios but not uncommon.

I think everyone has heard stories of extreme gambling, but like any other addiction, it is impossible to control without help. Just like alcoholics who shouldn't have so much as a sip of alcohol, gambling addicts need to completely steer clear of temptation.
