Poker Dress code?

Is there a particular dress code for a professional poker player or can one pretty much wear whatever they like? I know it's a silly question but it's something I've always wondered about...

I don't know about other casinos out there but our local one has a very relaxed approach to the dress code especially for women. The only no-nos are beach attire and tennis shoes.

For a long time, there has been a debate as to whether or not there should be some kind of dress code (especially) in professional poker. Either way, players have a responsibility to make a good impression by way of their appearance. In a way, I believe players dressing poorly will deny poker the respectability it deserves.

I don't think there is an exact protocol, but I'm sure professional poker players who want to be taken seriously dress more like business men than college frat boys. :)

I think it's important to show that you're serious and confident. I also think that your clothes should say that about you all on their own, without you having to open your mouth.

I actually enjoy dressing up every time I want to go to the casino. Whether there is a dress code or not, I just like to make a little effort to look good.

Wow, everyone does seem to have their own view when it comes to this. Thanks for all your replies guys. I think I will start making more of an effort when I go to play at casinos from now on.

Dressing up is part of the preparation process for me when I plan to go to the casino. I really enjoy doing that for some reason.

The way you dress says a lot about you. I think it makes sense to look sharp and portray a professional outlook if you want to be taken seriously. Remember that dressing smartly and expensively are two different things. Do you guys agree?
