I was just wondering about whether or not other players' can negatively affect my chances of winning, especially if they are clueless about what they are doing. What do you think?

I'm no expert, but it seems that another player might change the outcome of the game depending on whether they hit or stand, but it doesn't affect you directly. I may be wrong, but that seems to make sense to me.

Is it the case that bad players hurt the table? The answer to this is a definite yes and at times you have players who have no clue about basic strategy. Having said that, bad play can either help or hurt you. I am one player who will always stick even when there are instances of bad play.

I agree with Kenzow, the result of a bad player in the game could go either way. It could either increase your chances of winning or decrease them. Obviously if they don't know what they're doing and seem to lose a lot it increases your chances of wining. However, sometimes dumb luck can come into play.

I think that the odds of you either winning or losing can't be helped or hindered by having a poor player at the table. If the cards are shuffled well then whatever the other player does has no effect on the outcome of the game, IMO>

A bad player at the table can affect you, especially if it gets you angry or worked up enough to affect your focus or game.

More seriously, in the short term a bad player who goes bust by making bad calls takes high value cards out of the running for other players, which affects your chances of beating the dealer. In the long run, the hands should average out so your odds are about the same. Mind you, if the player is really that bad, ask him if he wants a friendly low stakes game afterwards.

Ha ha, that is a really good idea, Tolly! I think instead of getting all worked up, one might see this potentially frustrating event as a great opportunity instead.

I think the question was more about whether the bad player can affect your odds of winning or losing rather than if they would affect your mental state while playing.

The answer is NO. There play will not affect your results in the long term.

Thanks for making that very clear for all of us. I guess a lot of people were offering their different opinions here but in truth we didn't know for sure.
