Blackjack Do you take "even money"?

When it is offered, "even money" gives you a lower payout, but guarantees they pay out on a tie with the dealer when usually you would get nothing. Do you take "even money" when it is offered, or take the risk and go for the higher payout?

I would rather take the risk and go for the higher payout. I see no fun in settling for a mediocre compensation when I could potentially get the big prize.

In the long term, does it make sense for someone to take even money when it is offered or not? Over the course of a string of games, what difference does this make to your winnings/risk ratio if any?

The only time I take it is when I get a natural (Ace and ten) and I think the dealer might get one. That way, if the dealer does, I still double my money, rather than get the full winning amount, but I still make something. If I leave a normal bet and get a tie, I get nothing.

The dealer has a blackjack about 1:3 times, so you do the math. If you are counting cards then those percentages increase at a certain count threshold and then you take insurance. It is one of the most valuable plays for card counters.

Otherwise, insurance and even money are Bad BETS.

Stealth, is there some way we can find out more about how you play and your strategies? I know a lot of people here want to know more about your style of play.

I live in Las Vegas but play all over the US. I ran a nationwide team for a few years. You can email me at e.teller@blackjackscience . com and I will arrange a call to discuss, should you desire.
