Blackjack Creating new strategy

Is it possible for someone to come up with their own strategy or is every possible strategy already in existence and being used? Are there a finite number of ways that one can play this game?

New strategies and modifications to strategies come up all the time. Whether they are any good is another matter. There are basic mathematical rules you can follow in play to minimise the house edge, and most strategies revolve around how you bet on those.

Thanks for the reply, Sevens. I do understand how one might be able to modify an existing strategy and I hope to be able to hone in on one I like and do that for myself soon.

That is actually the best thing you can do when you take the best part of a strategy that someone else created and then tweak it to make it your own.

You folks are day dreaming. I know of thirty different counts systems all with varying levels of advantage and disadvantage over the others. The advent of high speed computers made it possible to simulate BILLIONS of rounds and determine the absolute best way to play each situation. The chances of you finding a "new" system is about the same as you getting hit by a meteorite. Most attempts realize that the advantage they gained was offset by some other disadvantage.

If you want to learn then:

1. Learn Basic Strategy
2. Learn to count card using the HiLo system
3. Learn to convert the count to a true count for betting and playing decisions.
4. Learn bankroll management and bet ramp design that play with in your risk tolerance.
5. Learn how to beat the casino.

I'm curious about why you suggest the HiLo system? The Revere Point (multi deck variant) and Zen systems give a marginal edge over it when run through identical checks, although they are harder to learn. What do you find is the advantage of HiLo?

If you are playing for recreation or as an avocation then HiLo or KO are your best choice. The more advanced systems do provide better advantages (marginally) but also are harder to learn and be effective and promote much higher error rates.

Think of the complex systems as professional and the others as skilled amateur. Not exactly but you get my point. Like pro atheletes, if oyu are not playing and practicing every day then don't use the pro systems.

I ran a team for over 2 years and I would rather have an accurate HiLo player than a complex system player who struggles. The cost of errors in a team environment is enormous.

This is my experience and there are competing views.

I completely agree. No system works if it isn't used properly and at the pro level card counting has to be almost instinctive. It must also help if everyone in the team is using the same system.
