Do you think it's alright for these companies that buy annuities from lottery winners to do so when the winner gets to keep so little of the money and they get so much profit in the long run?

If it is an informed decision, it is up to them. Hey, if someone knows they can't manage their money getting an annuity is a really smart choice. It makes sure they won't be another broke lottery winner in three years.
