Scheduled for a BJ tourney, significant prize money so I would like to go in with the best strategy;
is it better to slow play, min bet, or bet max at start to get an early lead then go to min
I have seen 10's split against dealer 4-5-6, I know, not basic strategy, I saw it as an attempt to get a larger wager in play. Those that have played know there is a max bet, this would allow doubling that wager. Not that it happens that often, but if......
Any thoughts appreciated

Blackjack Tournaments are about money management against your opponents. Betting and position for making a betting decision are critical. Note that your opponents are the other players not the house. I have hit 19 with all my chips bet before to win a tournament. Strategies are available but are not simple enough for you to master in a day. Google blackjack tournament strategy and read "Casino Tournament Strategy" paperback book by Stanford Wong.

These tourneys can be a good source of income if have them available but they do require a skill set that is very different than normal blackjack.

Making a living playing blackjack alone is very difficult. I manage a team of advantage players most of which have a "day job" and do blackjack as a profitable hobby. Team play allows you to have a larger bankroll that reduces risk of ruin and allows you to play enough hands as needed by the law of large numbers.

While I always am striving to make money, I have other means of support.

It's the same with roulette. Its more a side income. Even high stakes players have other income sources too.
