Sports Betting companies as sponsors

Do you think it is ethical for a betting company to be a kit sponsor for a sports team? I feel that it creates a sort of conflict of interest. There must be stringent measures that have been put in place to govern such partnerships and mechanisms that prevent any such thing like match fixing.

I keep asking myself the same question over and over again. I don't see any other way such companies would give back and it is in order, as well as all regulations are adhered to. It is also a marketing strategy meant to get more people into the betting scene and it works most times.

No, I don't think it's ethical for a betting company to sponsor the players. I guess it would be a way to "pay back" for a winning season or game, however, there is a huge conflict of interest there. Somehow gambling crosses lines of ethical behavior most of the time.

Is the act itself ethical? I don't know, that's a very subjective term.

In order for that to happen though, assuming that it's even legal, the sports team would have to agree to it and enter into a contract. Would you want to bet on that team? Now that you know who is sponsoring it? The sports team would want to keep its fan base in mind before it does something like this.

I agree with you @zephyr 12 that this is quite a subjective topic. I see a lot of teams being sponsored by the betting companies nowadays and I believe that there are certain regulations that have been laid out, in this regard.

Richard Sherman was recently talking about the hypocrisy in the NFL. (The man loves to bite the hand that feeds him) It wouldn't surprise me one bit if a team entered into a contract with a betting company, while the NFL itself publicly states that they do not endorse gambling.
